Darkseid - "The Great Darkness Saga"

The Great Darkness Saga" story arc, in relation to Darkseid, runs primarily through Legion of Super-Heroes (Volume 2) #290 and#294 and in Legion of Super-Heroes Annual #1. The story itself surrounds Darkseid, having survived into the 30th century, as he and his minions murder other villains to steal their assets.

At this point the Legion of Super-Heroes' greatest enemy is a wizard named Mordru but Darkseid kills him with no problem. Darkseid kills theTime Trapper and goes on to conquer the planet Draxam. Darkseid recruits the Draxamites into his army because they all obtain Kryptonian-like abilities under the yellow sun. All of these feats are successes for Darkseid, but his most villainous moment in "The Great Darkness Saga" has to do with a villain named Validus. 

The Legion of Super-Heroes, at this time, are in constant struggle with an enemy group called the Fatal Five. Two of the Legion's founders, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl, were married and expecting twins. Darkseid kidnaps their son during "The Great Darkness Saga" and brainwashes him. Darkseid names the boy Validus and sends him back in time to fight the emerging hero group- the Legion of Super-Heroes. Saturn Girl's defeat is that, not only have her children been kidnapped, her son has been her arch enemy for years!
